The Hodge Blog

Join the eponymous Hodge and his bunch of fiftysomething mates on a laughter and alcohol fuelled trip to Hong Kong to celebrate his 50th Birthday. Chart their progress through the planning stages, the gruelling flight from the UK, first impressions of HK, success, or failure, at Happy Valley Races and the casinos of Macau, and the special treat that awaits the Birthday Boy. A certain amount of poetic licence may be employed by the authors, so don’t believe everything you read!

A Wee Dram

Time for a further up-date from the Meister and very appropriate too given last night’s opportunity to engage in some decent whisky tasting. Albeit not a heavy session (for me), the Laphroaig (think that was a 12 year old?) was particularly smokey and went down very well after a few pints of the Landlord. Kiwi played his usual part in getting the barman to pour-out several ‘examples’ for us to sniff but which Clive took to be ‘tasters’ – thanks Clive! Hopefully, publication of Kiwi’s forthcoming book ‘Techniques for Getting Free Tasters’ will be delayed until after the boys hit the specialist bars in HK - we don’t want to give away ALL our secrets!

How dare you accuse me of nicking your sniffers, although I suppose it could be worse !!

I'm not a sniffer nicker
I'm a sniffer nicker's mate
I only nick those sniffers
when my bloody pint is late
